Mr Drakeford says YES!
Finally, the Welsh gyms, leisure centres, and of course the climbing walls have been given the go-ahead to open from Monday 10th August. Woohoo!
So while there has been some work quietly going on in the background, there is still much to do. Please be aware it will feel quite different when you first come back and we will need your full cooperation to make things work for everyone. It will all be new to us too. We want you to be as safe as possible (but as with anything, no risk can be entirely removed), and we want our staff to be safe too. In due course we will publish all the changes and new procedures particularly relating to hygiene, and your time in the climbing wall may be limited due to restrictions on the density of climbers allowed in the wall for the foreseeable future. We hope you will all show your usual patience and understanding.
We do realise that our winter aggregates were brought to an abrupt stop by the lockdown, and we still have prizes here waiting to be dished out, but as yet we have no winners! So we intend to pick up where we left off and continue almost as if nothing had happened – if there was a route or problem you’d been working on you may find it is still there waiting for you, plus a few more new routes to boot. We’ll run the aggregates to the end of August (method to be confirmed) then declare our winners. Points mean prizes!
We are SO looking forward to seeing you all back here.
UPDATE: You can now read full information about re-opening procedures at Beacon Climbing Centre on our dedicated COVID-19 INFO website page. This page will inform you of how the centre will be operating, what you can expect from us, and what we expect from you.
