How old do you have to be to climb at Beacon?
Anyone age 3+ can enjoy climbing at Beacon either under the supervision of a climbing instructor or under the supervision of a competent adult climber. We offer specially tailored climbing sessions for children of all ages.

I have climbed before. Can I just turn up at Beacon and climb?

Registration is free and involves reading our conditions of use and completing a registration form declaring your basic competence and a willingness to accept responsibility for yourself and anyone you are supervising. You can find comprehensive information here.

I have never climbed before. Can I just turn up at Beacon and have a go?
No. All beginners are required to undergo instruction. Adults can either book onto a 1.5 hour Taster Session or onto our comprehensive Beginner Climbing Course. We also offer a range of introductory climbing courses for children of all ages.

Do I need to book?
We always recommend that you book in advance to avoid disappointment. You can book online or by phoning the climbing centre.

Can I hire equipment?
Beacon has a full range of equipment available to hire including climbing shoes in all sizes, harnesses, belay devices, helmets and chalk bags. You can find equipment hire prices on our website here.

What should I wear?
Climbing is much easier if you are wearing loose fitting comfortable clothing that allows freedom of movement. Jeans, combat trousers or tracksuit bottoms combined with a short sleeved t-shirt or vest are ideal. It is also a good idea to bring a jumper for wearing when resting. Avoid wearing jewellery around your arms or hands.

I am just spectating friends/family. Do I need to pay?
No. Spectators are welcome in the climbing centre but must not enter the designated climbing areas.

Is there a Café at Beacon Climbing Centre?
Beacon has a cafe offering a selection of tasty hot and cold snacks and drinks available throughout the day.
