Beacon Climbing

Westway Climbing Centre

As one of the best known and most popular centres in the UK, Westway Climbing Centre in London needs no introduction to most climbers.

Phase 1

In 2007, Beacon Climbing Walls were delighted to get the contract to build a big new bouldering area for Westway Climbing Centre which has since set the bench mark for steep modern bouldering walls. Read below what Neil Gresham, one of the UK's top climbers and performance coaches has to say about this wall.

'Beacon Climbing have set new standards for climbing wall design in the UK with their highly futuristic bouldering wall at the Westway. In recent years there has been a tendency for the same concepts to be duplicated, but this wall brings things into line with some of the best walls in Europe and the US. A modern facility should be versatile for endurance training as well as for bouldering and it should also be up to the required spec for competitions. The problem with climbing wall designs is that they date so quickly, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Beacon if you want a climbing wall that is really going to last the distance.'

Phase 2

In addition to construction work undertaken in 2007, Beacon Climbing Walls completed further work at Westway in early 2011. The old style fibreglass bouldering walls were replaced with new multifaceted plywood designs aimed at the intermediate climber but also incorporating a steeper cave section which will no doubt sport some harder problems. The new style bouldering wall construction creates interesting and absorbing 3-dimensional climbing with a large variety of angles and features.
