Great Apes Club
Following the National Indoor Climbing Achievement Scheme (NICAS), The Great Apes Club is ideal for youngsters aged 7-10 who are keen and committed to learning about all aspects of indoor climbing. Booking is essential.
The structured NICAS programme introduces young climbers to climbing on indoor climbing walls and comprises of different levels of increasing technical skill and knowledge.

Level 1. Foundation Climber
An entry level aimed at novices that recognises their ability to climb safely under supervision. -
Level 2. Top Rope Climber
Aimed at promoting good practice in climbing and bouldering unsupervised on an artificial wall. -
Level 3. Technical Climber
A more advanced top roping and bouldering level that focuses on developing technique and movement skills. -
Level 4. Lead Climber
Concentrates on the skills required to both lead climb and belay a lead climber. -
Level 5. Advanced Climber
The top level focuses on improving performance, a deeper understanding of climbing systems and the wider world of climbing. oncentrates on the skills required to both lead climb and belay a lead climber.
The Great Apes Club aims to allow children to attain NICAS Level 1 and 3 whilst having plenty of fun in a controlled environment. NICAS provides a logbook to record the skills learnt and the climbs undertaken, with certificates on completion of each level. Older children are able to progress onto NICAS Level 3 - 5 through the Beacon Kids Club.
