| CLIMBING WALL AWARD COURSE
The Climbing Wall Award is specifically designed for supervisors responsible for groups at indoor and outdoor climbing walls. The course will also include the abseil module for supervisors who want to run group abseiling sessions. The award covers techniques such as group supervision, equipment suitability, safety and coaching movement skills.

When
The scheme comprises of a 2 day training course, a period of consolidation followed by a 1 day assessment. The Abseil Module is included in the main training and assessment courses. Please note that all candidates should be registered with the scheme prior to the course – register here. |

Training course structure
Day 1: 9am-5pm evening session 6pm – 8pm.
Day 2: 9am-5pm.
During the course we aim to visit 2 different climbing walls. Aspects of the syllabus include personal skills, group skills, equipment selection and suitability, safety and movement skills and many other issues. At the end of the training course each candidate will be de-briefed and given an indication of what is needed before they present themselves for assessment. |
What you need to bring
- Completed registration and log book.
- Suitable clothing.
- Packed lunch (optional).
- Personal climbing kit*.
- Single rope*.
*Can be provided on the training course if necessary.
Experience before the training course
- You need to be a rock climber with at least 6 months rock climbing experience.
- You must register with one of the four Mountain Leader Training Boards (MLTW).
- You need to be affiliated to, or a full member of the BMC.
- You must have climbed on artificial walls on at least 15 occasions, visited at least 3 different walls and successfully led on walls.
Experience before the assessment course
- Consolidation period (feedback from trainer).
- Led a minimum of 40 climbs.
- Assisted with the supervision of climbing for at least 15 sessions at a variety of climbing walls or towers.
