CHARITY ABSEILS

An organised abseil for small groups on local crags, or large groups on the stupendous Marquess of Anglesey Column overlooking the Menai Straits can earn you sponsorship money for your favourite charity.

Booking info

Sessions are run for any length of time according to the numbers of people wishing to abseil. As a guide, 10 or 12 people will need at least a couple of hours, allowing an extra hour of the use of the column for us to set up and de-rig. 40 people require eight or nine hours. Allow yourselves plenty of time between the germ of your fund-raising idea to the date of the actual abseil, and give us plenty of warning to arrange the booking of the column.

More about Marquess of Anglesey Column
As you approach Anglesey on the A55 via the Britannia Bridge, the skyline just to the left is dominated by a tall column, atop of which is the statue of the Marquess of Anglesey. This is probably the best and most exciting venue for charity abseils – it is 110 feet high up to the platform, is accessed via a dark spiral staircase inside the column, and has a magnificent view of the Menai Straits and the Snowdonia Mountains from the top. The column is open to the general public when abseils are not taking place.

Of course, people who abseil for charity are unlikely to be experienced abseilers, or it would be difficult to get sponsorship! The Beacon Climbing Centre can arrange a half day or full day’s abseil session from the column for you and your cause, providing full safety equipment and expertise, and of course, reassurance and moral support! There is a separate charge for the use of the column itself, owned by the current Marquess of Anglesey: this charge is variable according to the time of year, and the column is closed to the public during an abseil. This means that the abseilers and their families can socialise at the beautiful little open-air café near the base of the column, and there can be quite a party atmosphere.

Please note – summer weekends are in demand, so please book early. We will liase with the column owners to arrange for the sole use of the column at a time to suit you and them, and inform you of their charge.

Go on, what are you waiting for?!
