Smart Climbing Open Course running from 6th-8th September... : (05/08/2013)
Smart Climbing was developed by dual qualified Clinical Psychologist and climbing instructor, Dr Rebecca Williams with the aim of providing psychological skills teaching, advice and coaching to rock climbers who would like to develop their mental focus, overcome fears and anxieties, and improve their body awareness, visualisation skills and psychological tactics for climbing.
Running once a year, the 2013 Smart Climbing Open Course runs from 6-8th September and will be delivered by Lucy Creamer (who needs no introduction!), Katy Forrester (GB bouldering squad) and Dr Rebecca Williams (Consultant Clinical Psychologist). The aim is to work holistically on the full range of skills needed to become a better climber, whatever your level, and includes technique and movement coaching, a session of overcoming your fear of falling, yoga and meditation for climbers, slick ropework to prevent problems and get out of tricky situations, and lots of psychological skills teaching to help build confidence, motivation and manage anxiety. There's even an evening lecture from local legend Pete Robins, fresh from his first ascent of Dark Energy F8c+ at Pigeons Cave, where Pete will give an insight into the role of failure in creating a successful first ascent.
The course costs £200 for all tuition and wall entry, or £220 including bunkhouse style accommodation, and group sizes are small to allow for maximum learning. There are still a few spaces left, so for more information or to make a booking please contact Rebecca on firstname.lastname@example.org.
Further information including a video clip offering a summary of the course can also be found on the Smart Climbing website here.
