Autana: Leo Houlding's epic new film at Beacon on 13th April... : (15/03/2013)
Join us at Beacon Climbing Centre on Saturday 13th April for an awesome climbing film night featuring two incredible films: Autana and Push It.
Autana is the epic new film from adventure climber Leo Houlding and film maker Alastair Lee. Jen Randall's film Push It documents her first ever big wall climb, El Capitan in Yosemite and was the winner of the People's Choice at Edinburgh Mountain Film Festival 2012.
An adventure unlike any other, original, experimental, entertaining and visually stunning, Autana follows Leo Houlding and fellow climbers Sean Leary and Jason Pickles deep into the Amazon in their attempt to make the first ascent of the east face of the remote tepuy; Cerro Autana. 'Indiana Jones would have been proud'.
WINNER OF THE GRAND PRIZE AT THE KRAKOW MOUNTAIN FESTIVAL 2012
WINNER OF THE BEST MOUNTAIN FILM AT THE TORELLO MOUNTAIN FESTIVAL 2012
WINNER OF THE BEST MOUNTAIN ADVENTURE FILM AT THE KENDAL MOUNTAIN FESTIVAL 2012
The action begins with a covert journey via military check-points and secret ports through Amazonas State. Our team of clandestine climbers disguised as tourists travel down the Orinoco River to the remote village of Ceguera where they make a traumatic psychotropic visit to the local Shaman to gain access to the sacred mountain.
From here sweltering humidity, porter chaos and an assortment of jungle nastiest are just a part of this spectacular journey of self-discovery and big wall hunting. Follow our team of redoubtable characters as they find their way up the jungle infested rock face and as they are amazed not only at the climbing but a luxury wall camp in the incredible Autana Cave system just below the summit of the tepuy (the highest elevated cave system in the world).
Push It is the story of filmmaker Jen Randall and her new-found climbing partner Jackie Sequeira preparing for their first ever big wall - El Capitan in Yosemite, which goes far from smoothly from start to finish. Along the way, Jen visits some of her climbing heroines for inspiration, including Mina Leslie-Wujastyk bouldering in Magic Wood, Switzerland, Natalie Berry sport climbing in Malham, Yorkshire, and a local hero Vicki Mayes trad climbing in Dunkeld, Scotland. Two years in the making, overcoming broken bones, awful weather, a lack of funds and several crisis of confidence, this is a film about testing your limits and chasing adventure.
"Randallís production is not only another opportunity to marvel at the skill of elite athletes, be it men, or much less often, women. Itís a much more complex story built around the notions of journey and female camaraderie. Itís an open invitation for everyone to keep pushing it."
